FIRE AT TAUMARUNUI.

PUBLIC SCHOOL DESTROYED

Taumarunui, May 26. "At 8 o’clock last night an outbreak of fire was discovered in the District High School buildings. The brigade was quickly on the scene, but the flames already had a good hold on the building, which was one of the oldest wooden structures in the town. The fire was subdued after two hours of strenuous work, but the major portion of the building was badly damaged. The cause of the fire is unknown. . The library books, a quantity of stationery and desks, and the science room equipment were saved. Everything was in order when the headmaster locked the school at 5 o’clock. The insurances are not available.
