HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION.

The weekly meeting of the Horowlienua Rugby Union was held at Levin on Tuesday evening, Mr -T. Proctor being in the chair. There were also present : Messrs Hutchins, Casey, McMillan, Sciaseia, S. Austin, Bevan, and the secretary, Mr L. Carmichael. “ON THE MAT.’'

Two players, C. Rowlands and Tui Carter, who were ordered off the Held at the Foxton-Tokomaru junior mate!!, appeared before the Union.

Rowlands, who admitted the rough play expressed regret for what had happened. He admitted having been warned previously in the match and had “dumped” a player pretty hard but denied fighting. It was the first time he had been ordered off a field. There had been a certain amount of ill-feeling between the two teams for some time.

Mr Neville, the referee, said that tlie game had started off practically with a civil war, and he had called the teams together and warned them. Later he had found Rowlands using his fists in a loose scrum, and had promptly ordered him off. Rowlands agreed that this was true. Tui Carter, who was warned off for using had language, complained that the offence had been committed as the result of rough play <m tlie part of an opposing player, when he had used the language complained of.

The feeling of the meefiuf was that a firm stand should he taken in order to prevent a recurrence of such offences, the chairman expressing the opinion that as the players had been stood down for one Saturday, it would ho sufficient to stand them down for another game and he moved to this effect. Mr Casey seconded.

Mr Hutchings moved an amendment that tlie.se players having been suspended for one Saturday, they be severely cautioned and warned that if they come before the Union again they will be severely dealt with. Mr Seiaseia seconded the amendment, which was carried.

LOCATION OF REP. MATCHES. A letter was received from the Manawatu Rugby Union suggesting June 2” as a suitable day for a Rep. mutch and asking that if this was satisfactory that they lie notified to ibis effect.- —Agreed to. After some discussion as to where the match should be played, certain members urging that it was ia the best interests of football to distribute Rep. matches throughout the Union, Mr Casey moved that the game he played in Levin. Mr Hutchins opposed centralisation and mentioned the Taranaki Union, which distributed its Rep. matches. lie considered that having Rep. matches in different towns of the Union did much to stimulate fool hall. The chairman said that three vears ago lie was one of those who supported the idea of giving a trial lo holding Rep. matches in different centres. Matches had been played at Eoxton, Shannon, Otaki, and Levin, and the scheme had not been a success either financially or from .- 111 v other point of view. The advantage of having matches in a central position was that people could come from both ends of the district wit'tout having to t ravel an undue distance.

The milium a.- proposed was adopted. It was decided to notify \Yellingt■ ■ i Union that Ho row henna would plav a Rep. match excluding Manawalu players with Wellington B. on July 2Sih, at Wellington. The Marlborough Rugby Union wrote suggesting a game at. Levin on July .1-1. —Agreed to.
