Constable J. O’Donoghue returned to Pox ton last night from Ashhurst., where he has been relieving. Mrs G. Coley senr. returned to Foxton last evening, after spending a most enjoyable holiday in Auckland.

The friends of Mrs C. Hood (who is at present staying with her son, Mr C. flood, of Koputaroa) will be pleased to learn that she is greatly improved in health and intends returning to Foxton at an early date. The death occurred at Wellington on Wednesday of Mr Jeremiah Hurley, who for some 25 years lived at Kiiku and who was for a number of years Returning Officer for the Electoral district of Otaki. The late Mr Hurley, who was 78 years of age, had only been ill a few days. There are live daughters and one son (Father Dan. Hurley) to mourn their loss. Sister Agatha, of the Otaki Convent, is a daughter. The death took place last week of Mr Vivian Higgins, first assistant master at the Petone Boys’ High School, and formerly a lieutenant in the Machine Gun Company, N.Z. F.F. Mr Higgins, who was 45 years of age, was born in Amberley, Canterbury, and had been in the service of the Wellington Education Board for nearly 27 years. Prior to his transfer to Petone, the late Mr Higgins was first assistant at the Levin school. The death occurred at Palmersi on North last evening after a long and painful illness, of Mr W. H. (Ford) Hankins, third son of Mr J. H. Hankins, Palmerston North. Fovtv-two years of age, the late Mr Nankins came when only two months old to Foxton with his parents, and resided here and in Palmerston North ever since. After attending the Wanganui College, he joined his father’s firm in 1895. The late Air Hankins was an ardent entlmiast in all forms of sport. A widow and three young children are left to mourn their loss.
