A local bachelor, who shall be nameless, recently purchased a meat pie as an appetising meal. In biting through the crust, his teeth came- info contact with something other than meat and which resulted in a broken tooth. In a desperate a (tempi to eject the tooth and swallow the pie the opposite happened. He is now wondering if, in the event of an operation for appendicitis, -whether he can claim damages from the pieman or whether the reverse ejecting action would be looked upon as contributing neglect?
During ilic recent flood drift wood was squeezed together with such lorce in front of the dredge that it was possible for a person to walk
about on lhe drift. Several enterprising persons made good use of Ibis drift, chopping logs out foilin' wood. Early one morning a local Native was thus engaged when his nxo slipped on the lo" he was chopping and being wrenched from his grasp flung far out into Ihe stream and disappeared from sight beneath the turbulent waters. Although the axeman remained some lime, ruminating on the loss of bis axe, no god, as in the fable, appeared from the depths with his steel axe, let alone a gold or silver one and hence his firewood did not prove to be such a cheap proposition. Several axes were lost in this manner.
