During the month 436,300 ft. were used by consumers, 23,000 ft. in the street lamps, 28,000 ft. at the works and there was 14,000 ft. in the holder on April Ist., making a total of 501,300 ft,. and leaving 43,400 ft., representing 7.7 per cent., unaccounted for. Forty-six tons of coal was carbonised during the month, yielding 11,461 c.ft. to the ton. “The earnings for the month totalled £297 8/-, and were made up as follows: —Gas sales (lighting), £125 8/7, heat and power £l3O 10/1 coke sales £ll 12/-, tar sales £l6 11/-, fittings £9 2/3, services £2 2/-, labour fittings 13/S), labour services £1 Os fid, miscellaneous 1/-, being a. total of £297 8/-. “The expenditure for the month totalled £239 12/9 and was made up as follows: —Coal £ll6 4/9, salaries and wages £4!) 14/3, labour fittings £1 1/11, stores 4/-, telephone 10/-, E.L. Insurance £lO 19/6, working expenses £1 6/8, Interest and Sinking Fund £59 1.1/8, being a total of £239 12/9. “The apparatus is all in fairly good order and everything is working fairly well. One new service has been added in Russell St., and we have put in three services to the new shops in Main St. We have had a good many services choked and have cleared these out as quickly as possible. There is one service I would like to alter owing to the consumer always getting such a poor pressure. The present service is 295 ft. long, going from Ravensworth Place across the back of the Tennis Club to AY right’s house. My idea is to run a ljin. main up to Watson Street and there is the possibility of adding one, if not two, more consumers. The cost of this alteration would be about £3O. We have about 50 tons of coke on hand.”

In adopting the reports the Mayor stated that the workings showed the largest credit balance yet disclosed.

On the motion of Crs. Smith and Brvant it was decided that where new gas meters are required, slot meters he nurehased and used where considered advisable and the gas manager be instructed to cut off the supply of gas to consumers as per previous resolution, namely, two months arrears.
