NEW THEORY OF DISEASE.
CAUSED BY EMOTIONS
The curious theory of a Greek physician, Dr. Kouzas, that microbes do not cause disease is much discussed in Greek medical circles, says the Athens correspondent of the Times. Dr. Kouzas maintains that most diseases are due to an invisible unknown “virus filtrant,” which is formed in our system when we are mentally agitated. When we are sad, feel jealous, or harbour hatred, we breathe out carbonic acid gas, containing the “virus filtrant,” which poisons the atmosphere, and consequently our blood, during respiration. When the air is full of the virus, it causes the outbreak of epidemics, says Dr. Kouzas, who thinks that the wartime epidemics, such as influenza and typhus, were due to the general sadness and depression of the people.
