CORRESPONDENCE.

(To The Editor.)

Sir, —Your report of the Foxton Club’s meeting published in Saturday’s edition is rather misleading to the Club’s members and public in general, inasmuch as- it would lead them to believe that the application from the Y.M.C.A. had only just been received for consideration. As a matter of fact it had been received and turned down by the Town Committee some two months ago, and my motive at the last meeting was to have this important matter reconsidered. It was an important matter to the town as well as to the Racing Club. However, I understand that you were instructed not to publish certain business that was transacted at the last, meeting, and whilst I realise that even the Press has to be discreet sometimes, I certainly look to get fair treatment and a hearing from the Press, and hope in the future the reports of Racing Club matters will savour more of actual facts. —Thanking you, Yours etc. JOHN BURR. [OUR representative was not present at the meeting referred to by our correspondent, but particulars were obtained of the business transacted and verified by the secretary before publication. Mr Burr should know that any matter taken in committee must be treated as confidential, both by those concerned and the press. We are in honour bound to follow this procedure, even at the displeasure of Mr Burr, who, no doubt, will have an opportunity to air his grievance at the next committee meeting. —Ed. H.]

Sir, —Re Mr R. McMurray’s letter in your issue of' the 28th ult. Mr McMurray stated that owing to the s.s. Kennedy having stranded on the bar, and in the river, she has done such harm to the port ot foxton “that Insurance Companies will not now insure vessels or cnrgo coining to Foxton.” This statement is not borne out, as far as the Kennedy is concerned. This vessel is insured with the Insurance Companies and cargo shipped by her is also insured by the companies. The Insurance Companies have raised no objection to insuring Foxton cargo, nor have the rates been raised, in fact in some cases the rates have lately been reduced. —Yours etc..

J. S. MOIR, Branch Manager, Messrs Levin and Co. Ltd., Agents s.s. Kennedy.
