ROUND BUSH SCENIC RESERVE.
On Saturday afternoon last, Sir James Wilson, a member of the Pores try Board, accompanied hv Messrs W. E. Barber, member of the Manawatu County Council and Hiekford, Comity Engineer, conferred with the ranger of the Round Busk Scenic Reserve (Mr J. K. Hornhlow). Mr Hornhlow said that he desired (o bring under the notice of. the Forestry Board the necessity of enclosing the Scenic Reserve with a belt of suitable shelter trees. This reserve consisted of one of the most mngnifieient and isolated pieces of native Imsh in the province and steps should he taken to protect it or to preserve it. A portion of the hush at the hack was excluded from tHe Scenic Reserve and was part of the Harbour Board endowment. This hush, however, coaid not be leased for grazing purposes and he suggested to Mr Barber, who was a member of the Harbour Board, and who had a thorough knowledge of the Imsh, that a ragged portion at the front of the hush should he transferred to the Harbour Board, in exchange for that portion of the bush excluded from the Scenic Reserve, so that the whole of the bush could be placed under one control. Sir James Wilson said that he would refer the request to the Departmental officers and fully agreed with the proposal. Mr W. E. Barber also agreed that something should he done to protect and preserve this very valuable National asset. He promised to bring the proposed exchange under the notice of the Harbour Board.
