MOUTOA NOTES.

The annual meeting of householders last week for the purpose of electing a school committee was attended by twenty this year as against six last year. It will be noticed, therefore, that things are looking up in educational matters. None of the old committee are represented this year. The new committee consists of four from Marotiri and one from Moutoa. The following is the committee: Messrs V. Jewell (chairman), A. 11. Green, L. Poupnrd, BaildoiPand J. Anderson. They are o good team and should accomplish good work during the year. At the recent tennis social to Miss Bowe, much appreciated songs were contributed by Mesdames Hall and Davey and Miss Upton, Mr -I. Aitken and choruses by the Moutoa Merry-makers. Miss Butler supplied the dance music. Tt was rather fitting that the presentation should be made to Miss Bowe in the school where she had been educated. Miss Bowe is as popular with the countryside as are her parents. The good wishes of all will follow her all through her wedded life. The overcrowded state of the school house for social functions indicates the necessity for tin* erection of a hall. While the old happy associations of the school will always remain a pleasant memory, a mow hall is a pressing necessity. This is how we stand in the matter. Messrs W. and R. Barber have given a half-acre of land—a splendid donation and £124 has been gathered in various ways. To this must be added a donation of £25 from Whitnunui Ltd. Air Upton, who I am sorry to say, is leaving us in June next, is the live-wire in the movement and it won’t be lvis fault if the much desired and badly needed building is not erected before he departs. We are looking for a little help from Foxton in this connection and we know that it will be forthcoming as both places have always worked well together in the past.
