(To The Editor.)
Sir, —Will you please inform me whether a mail has to live in Foxton half a life time before he can qualify to become a candidate for the Mayoralty or Council. Listening to a conversation the other day, I gathered that brains counted for nothing compared to this. If this is the kind of qualification is it any wonder that men with progressive ideas want to get out of the place. I thought the only people who were barred were infants, lunatics and criminals, but according to my friend’s argument, Foxton has made another stipulation for candidates. I happen to know a bit about stock raising and new blood is necessary to introduce into the herd otherwise the herd throws back and deteriorates. New blood is wanted to push Foxton ahead. I don’t say that the Mayor and Councillors have not done their best hut some of them could he spelled. But if new-com-ers are to wait till they get the sleeping-sickness microbe, foxton will still remain among the hasbeens. I hope, sir, you will agitate to get this fresh embargo removed. —Yours, etc., vARF-AN-ARF.
