ALLEGATION OF THEFT.

CHARGE AGAINST ACCOUNTANT.

Masterton, April 12. This morning a warrant was issued in Masterton for the arrest of Ralph Percy Cook, accountant in the Municipal Gas Depatment, for the alleged theft of £54 10s sd. Cook had left for Christchurch on Tuesday, about an hour after the information had been laid, and before the warrant was acted upon. The Masterton police received a wire stating that Cook had given himself up to the Christchurch police and slated that there were defalcations in Masterton amounting to about £3OO. The Masterton police then notified Christchurch of the issue of the warrant in Masterton for Cook’s arrest. Cook will be formally charged in Christchurch and will probably be remanded to Masterton. The council is covered by a fidelity bond for £SOO. Christchurch, Last Night. in the Magistrate’s Court to-day . Raipli Henry Percy Cooke, aged 27, accountant in the gas department of the Masterton Borough, was charged that between April 4 and 7, at Masterton, he received the sum of £54 10/(1 on terms requiring him to account to the Council and omitted to do so, thereby committing theft. The accused, who was arrested in Christchurch yesterday, was remanded in custody to appear at Masterton on Tuesday.
