OROUA DOWNS QUEEN CARNIVAL.
CORONATION CEREMONY.
The Queen Carnival effort in aid of the liquidation of the debt on the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall at Oroua Downs was brought to a fitting conclusion in the new hall last night, when the crowning ceremony took place. The hall was packed with a reeoz’d audience, including a large number of Foxton residents. Prior to the ceremony, the Foxton Silver Band, under Bandmaster Colder, played a number of selections in front of the hall. The stage was artistically decorated for the ceremony. The conoratioa was directed by Mr Iloz-ziblow and despite the fact that only one rehearsal was held, the affair wezit off without a hitch. The processional of the queen, maids of honour, train Izear-ez-s, and court officials, in their charming robes was vez-y spectacular- The following are the names of the coronation party:- —Queen of the Carnival, Miss Cornelia Cozzlan; Maids of Hoziour, Miss Doris Waller (Sports), Miss Belle Pearson (Foxton), Miss Ena Davev (Soldiers’), Miss Hermine Cobbett (Village) ; Lord of the Realzn, J. Lizzklater, Esq., M.P.; Lord High Chancellor, Mr F. C. Raikes; Lord High Chamberlain J. A. Nash Esq., M.P. Lord High President, Mr G. C. Cobbett; Lord High Constable, Air M. E. Perreau; Court Trumpet ez-, Mr J. Colder; Mistress of the Robes, Miss McMuzTay; Court Musician, Miss Conlan; train bearei's, Misses Christensen (2) Queen; Miss Mercer (Spoz-ts), Miss Madge McColl (Foxton), Miss Gates (Soldiers), Miss Matty Ward (Village); Queen’s page, Master Billy Seott. The warrant of election and address to the queen were read by Mr Raikes, the coronation was perfoi'med by Mr J. Linklater, address from the throne read by Mr Cobbett, presentations to Maids of Honour, MisIz’ess of the Robes, train bearers and page, by Mr J. A. Nash. The bestowal of coronation honours to committee representatives and others aroused great merriment. Honours were conferred upon the following: Mesdames Nicholls, Allen Seott, Messrs M. Hammond, J. Whittan, Andrew Jamieson, A. Nicholls, Clarence zMouideu, E. Christensen’ Pergusson, Charles Shailer, J. Reay, TYilsozi Scott, Jack Funnell, J. Lucinski, W. Gates, Waller, Batchelor, McKelvie and others. The personal allusions and titles bestowed were received with applause. During the ceremony Messrs H. Osborne azid J. Colder contributed items by Royal Command. After the court retirement the hall was cleared for dancing and a most enjoyable time spent. The total recepts of the effort amouzit to ovez 1 £4OO.
During the evenizig Messrs Nash and Linklater znade eongi-atulatory speeches and cheers were given for the queen, maids of hozzour, train barei's and Director of Ceremonies.
