A petition is in circulation asking the Mayor (Mr John Chrystall) to offer his services for another term.
At last night’s Council meeting i was decided to plaster the walls o: the new Council Chambers.
At last night’s Council meeting accounts amounting to £1,754 4/6 were passed for payment.
During the month six horses and six cows were impounded by the ranger. Driving fees to the amount of 1/- were collected. The cold snap on Sunday and yesterday was of the mid-winter variety. Snow fell on the lower slopes of the Tararuas.
The Manawatu County Council is constructing a stop-bank near -(the Shannon bridge on the Moutoa side and the contractor has made a start with the work.
Telephone subscribers are reminded that all fees must be paid on or before 4 p.m. on Saturday, otherwise they will be disconnected. The decking of the Shannon bridge is in need of repair.
During the recent holidays Mr and Mrs Geo. Coley and party had a delightful motor tour throughout the Taranaki province, which included trips to the Egmont Mountain house.
At last night’s Council meeting the Mayor thanked the Councillors for their co-operation during the past two years and hoped they would all oiler their services for a further term and be elected.
A hearty vote of thanks and appreciation was carried at last night’s Council meeting to the borough staff for the faithful manner' in which they had carried out their duties during the past year. At last night’s Council meeting the borough poundkeeper reported that during the month 12 head of stock had been impounded by the ranger. JJriving fees to the amount of 8/- and 1/- trespass fee were collected.
Those present at last night’s Borough Council meeting were: His Worship the Mayor (John Chrystall Esq.) and Crs. Bryant, brnith, Walker, Baud, Martin, Thompson and Coley. Mr Clirnie borough engineer, was also in attendance.
The shop day under the auspices of All Saints’ Ladies’ Guild was held on Saturday and was very successful. A good supply of produce, poultry, cakes, etc. were displayed, most of which found a ready sale before the evening. Various eompetitions were well supported, the results of which were as follows: —Dinner, Mri J . Easton, 82; tray, Mrs Owen, 230il painting, Mrs b. Austin, 49; tea, Mrs Stratford, (JO; table centre, Mi's W. E. Barber, 18; blouse, Mi P. Easton, 43. Mr W. E. Barber judged the exact weight of the lamb, 31ilbs. and generously gave same in to be auctioned, which was disposed of in four lots, realising altogether 15/6. Mr Hans Kies disposed of the unsold goods by auction in the evening.
