BOWLING.

A match for the Nye Ferns was played on the local green yesterday afternoon, when a team composed of Ross, Pearson, Roore and Christie (s) secured a win from D. Whibley, Healey, Smith and Bryant (s), the scores being 31 —17.

PALMERSTON CENTRE TOURNAMENT. In the semi-finals of the above tournament Wylie( Newtown) 20 defeated Needham (P-N.) 14. Braekenridge (Newtown) 25 defeated Smart (New Plymouth) 18. The final game was played on the Palmerston North Club’s green yesterday morning, when Wylie (Newtown) met Brackenridge (Newtown).

The match for third place between Smart (New Plymouth) and Needham (Palmerston North) did not eventuate, Smart forfeiting owing to a member of bis rink being summoned borne on urgent business. A Large number of spectators gathered to witness the final contest, and an excellent exhibition of the game was given, although in the early stages of the play Wylie was not at his best. The green was drawing well, and the weather conditions were ideal. The rinks were: J. M. Braekenndge, R. Ferguson, J. Brackenridge, .1. Brackenridge, senr. (skip) and Leahy, Trevor, Sexton and Wylie (skip). The final scores were:—Brackettridge 25, Wylie 10. At the close of the game Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., president of the centre, congratulated Mr Brackenridge on winning the tournament twice in succession. Complimentary reference was also made to Mr Wylie’s rink, Mr Needham’s and Mr Smart’s and following the presentation of the orders for trophies cheers were given for the contestants. PAIRS TOURNAMENT.

it has been decided to hold a Pairs Tournament on the local green on Wednesday next. The conditions of play will be that both leads and skips will be handicapped prior to the draw for partners and during play the same partners will be retained throughout, the winners to be decided on the aggregate. /in entrance fee of 2/6 will be charged and the prizes will be allotted in the proportion of one-half of the entrance fees to the winning pair, and one-quarter to the run-ners-up. Entries should be posted not later than Tuesday night. Play will commence at 1.30 sharp.
