FOXTON RIFLE CLUB.

A general meeting of the above was held on Thursday night at 7 p.m., there being a fairly good attendance.

Accounts amounting to £4 10s 6d were passed and a payment of £2 ss, ear hire, was endorsed. Decided to purchase from the P. and T. Department when sufficient funds are available, a wall telephone and a portable telephone for use on the range.

Decided to hold a snoot for cash prizes next Saturday and the following Saturday to start a trophy shoot for Messrs Kirkland’s, McIver’s and C. Simmons’ trophies, details to be left to the President to arrange. Mr F. Rimmer was appointed hon. auditor, vice Mr F. Wlhibley, resigned owing to departure. The resignation of the hon. secretary (Mr IT. Frank!and) was received, owing to his coming departure. Mr Frankland said that his work for the club, since he joined in 1919, had been a very great pleasure, and he was very sorry to have to give up the position. On Ihe motion of Mr A. E. Admore and Mr H. Hamer, the secretary’s resignation was accepted with deep regret, the committee to write a letter of sincere thanks. Members present spoke with appreciation of Mr Frankland’s work and the interest he had taken in the club. On the motion of Messrs A. Barnard and Hartley, Mr H. Hamer was appointed hon. secretary pro. torn. Mr Hamer said he could not accept the position permanently.

The credit balance was stated to he £ls 7s Id at this date.

A practise shoot was held at the range on Saturday afternoon, 10 shots at 300 yards. So few members were present that the cash prizes were held over to a later shoot. A strong, gusty wind was blowing. Scores were: Frankland 42, A. Barnard 41, Hamer 41, Admore 30, W. Symons (who was trying a new rifle) 29.

The first meeting of the newlyformed Horowhenua Rifle Association was held on the Hautere range on Monday, open only to members of the west coast and Upper Hutt clubs. There was a large attendance of competitors, including Messrs Head, Frankland, C. Rand, and W. Symons, of the local club. Rifleman Frankland distinguished himself by carrying back to Foxton the Horowhenua District Championship, with a gold medal and £2 10s cash. There were three matches, at 300, 500 and 600 yards, and the championship, at 600 yards, 7 shots at each range. The winner’s aggregate was 123. T. Thomson (Hautere) was runner-up with 121. Then came “Tuke” Whiteman (Upper Hutt) 120, and G. A. Monk (Ngntiawa) 120. The meeting was it distinct success due chiefly to the good work and enthusiasm of secretary A. Thomson, and the capable Executive Committee.
