MAGAZINE REVIEWS.

The following are reviews of the latest magazines, just to hand, from the publishers (Messrs Gor.don and Goteh, Aust. Ltd.) : Premier Magazine.—Beatrice Harraden, .who will be well remembered by her book “Ships that Pass in the Night” has written a new complete story, “The Shock,” which is an outstanding feature of the “Premier”' sMagazine for February 20. In addition there is a thrilling story by “Eilriaf” entitled “The Hilbannock Mystery,” relating the most extraordinary experiences of two men and how a very baffling mystery was solved. Albert Payson Terliune continues his serial, “Black Gold.” Nellie Tom-Gallon and Calder'Wilson are also well represented. The Premier Magazine, February tk —The authors are Nellie TomGallon' and Calder Wilson of the latest “Monsieur Zero” story, “Poppy from Ploughkeepsie.” “The Eternal Farewell” is another noteworthy story of an escaped convict by Vincent'Brown. Albert Payson TerInine narrates a further long install inent of his powerful serial of the out-of-doors, “Black Gold,” and the issue contains many entertaining complete stories. This edition of the “Premier” is attractively illustrated throughout. The Red Magazine, February 2. — The second instalment of Roy Morton’s dramatic serial “The Shaman,” is contained in the “Red” Magazine of this issue. There ai'e many complete stories also by well known authors and these include A. E. Ashford, John Haslette, James Barr, Michael Kent, etc. Edmund Snell contributes another episode of his brilliant series “The Yellow Seven.” All stories are very cleverly illustrated in back and white.

The London Magazine. —Many new and delightful features appealin'the March issue of this magazine and not least important of these are the beautiful London pictures. There is an amusing and entertaining story by Roland Pertwee, “That Romantic Age,” and complete stories by Hugh Walpole, Arthur Mills, Temple Bailey and many other prominent authors; also another long instalment of Gilbert Frankau’s powerful serial, “Gerald Cranston’s Lady.” All the stones and articles .are profusely illustrated and there is an attractive cover design by’Haskell Caffin.

Leach’s Home Needlework Series (No. 73). —This magazine contains directions for many beautiful frocks in knitting and crochet. All the designs are new and original, and will prove most valuable in view . f the rapid approach of winter, '•’here are illustrations of all the garments and the directions for making them are set forth clearly and lucidly. There are many useful hints for the beginner in knitting and also an article on the treatment of silk -and woollen garmnts.
