S.M. COURT.

The monthly sitting of the local S.M. Court was held yesterday before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M. CIVIL CASES.

Judgment was entered up for plaintiffs in the following cases:— G. T. Woodroffe (Mr Bergin) v. F. D. Whiblev, claim £46 11s 6d, costs £4 Is Gd; J. T. Follas (Mr Bergin) v. W. F. McDonald, claim £9, 'costs £1 10s Gd; Foxton Motor and Engineering Co. Ltd., (Mr Bergin) v. Kere Carter, claim £29 15s, costs £3 10s; Foxton Borough Council (Mr Bergin) v. D. Williams, claim £7-7s' sd, costs £1 10s 6d; same v. F. Edlin, £2 3s 6d, costs £1 3s Gd. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. J. Driscoll was ordered to pay R, Palmer £5 18s forthwith, in default seven days; William Ritchie to pay H. D. Mclver £6 7s Gd forthwith in default seven days; Richard Walter to pay S. J. Easton £l9 2s lOd, in default 14 days, warrant to be suspended so long as defendant pays £1 per month, first payment April lfith; J- Reynolds to pay W. J. Port and Co., £6 14s lid forthwith in default seven days, warrant suspended so long as £1 per month is paid, first payment Kith April; R. J. Sorensen to pay Miirv Keegan £lB 19s forthwith in default fourteen days, warrant suspended so long as £1 per month is paid, first payment 16th April; W. F. McDonald to pay Dalgety and Co. Ltd. £29 7s 3d forthwith, in default 21 days.

ILLEGALLY ON LICENSED PREMISES.

William Aldridge was charged by the police with being on theTicensed premises of the Manawntu Hotel on Sunday, March 4th. Evidence was given by Constable O’Donoghue and the defendant, who did not appear, was convicted and fined £2 and costs 7/-. Peter Petersen, similarly charged pleaded not guilty. He was further charged with a breach of his prohibition order and entered a similar plea. Constable O’Donoghue said on the Sunday in question be found defendant on the hotel premises. He bad no excuse to offer and had a bottle of beer in his inside pocket. Petersen was under the influence of liquor. Defendant denied that he had a bottle of beer in lvis possession and said that the constable found same on the ground nearby. He was coming away from the hotel premises when the constable came upon the scene. He was not under the influence of liquor. He was under the doctor’s care and had not had a drink for six weeks. He was fined £2 and costs 7/- for being on licensed premises and £1 and costs 7/- for breach of prohibition order, in default seven days imprisonment. In reply to the police as to whether he wanted time to pay the fine, Petersen 1 . said he-'hadn’t the money mid would have to go to gaol. RIDING WITHOUT LIGHTS. Walter Dudson, charged with riding a motor bicycle in Hall St. on the night of March 3rd. without a light was fined £1 and costs 7/-. STRAYING CATTLE. The Borough ranger proceeded against Arthur Collins for allowing a horse to wander on the streets and was fined 5/- and costs 7/-.
