FIRE BOARD.
A meeting of the local members of the Fire oßard was held last night. Present: Messrs Crystall (chairman), Bryant, Ilornblow and Smith. It was reported that the contractor had arrived and had commenced operations. The chairman said the building should not be commenced until the finance had been definitely arranged and the authority to proceed with the work was not in order. Mr Ilornblow said the contractor’s time limit expired on the day of his arrival and any hitch would have resulted in his throwing up the work. The chairman was out of town and in conversation with another member they had decided to authorise the work to proceed and have their action endorsed by the Board. So far as the finance was concerned there need be no fear in this connection. The question of finance being satisfactorily arranged, it was decided to sign the contract in order that the work be proceeded with immediately. It was decided to pay the purchase price of the section immediately.
