THE MAYORALTY.
THE MAYOR UNDECIDED,
The Mayor (Mr John Chrystall), who has occupied the chair for the [last six years, during which period he has had a very strenuous time, has not yet stated definitely that he will again be a candidate. At last night’s Council meeting, Ci’. Walker requested the Mayor to again offer his services for a further term. He paid a tribute to/the Mayor’s courtesy in dealing with Councillors and his careful attention given to all matters which came before the Council. He thought it would he in the best interests of the borough if the Mayor retained the position for another term. There were other reasons for the request whch he would not mention at present. Should Mayor accept the candidature, the Councillors, he was sure, would work tooth and nail to return him.
Cr. Thompson said he endorsed C. Walker’s remarks. Cr. Martin said he would prefer to leave the matter to the ratepayers. The Mayor, in thanking Cr. Walker, said lie'had had a good innings, but he would not make a definite statement at present. If any Councillor would like to become a candidate he would assist bis candidature. Cr. Smith said if possible’a candidate from the Council should be. selected to fill the position.
MR HOLDINGS A CANDIDATE,
Mr P. L. Hollings, solicitor, announces in another column, that he is a candidate for the Mayoralty of Foxton at the biennial election to be held next month. Mr Hollings was for many years Mayor of Masterton and saw that place grow from a village smaller than Foxton to what it is now, a large town and important business centre. His municipal experience there should be useful here in giving Foxton a push forward.
