ACTION SLUGIBTED by qtaki COUJNCH,. Tbe Otaki Borough Couucil is experiencing' difficulty in dealing with mot|or drivers and cyclists who set uieir by-laws at denance. At last night’s local Borough Council meet- 1 mg a lengmy lei ter was received iioni the Utaiu Town. Clerk stating mat ins Council had under consideration Lhe appointment of special constables to assist the local ponce lo deal with the matter and suggesting a conference of adjacent, local bodies to take joint action in Lhe appointment of such special constables, it was pointed out that such appointment would nave this advantage, that no one (except the local authority themselves) would know where these special constables wex-e working, and they believed the additional cost would be compensated for by a saving in road maintenance to say nothing of a reduced risk to. other users of the road.
The letter was received and the local inspector is to be instructed to immediately assist the police in prosecuting the offenders who exceed the speed limits as defined in lhe Borough by-laws.
