BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the local Borough Council was held __ last night. CORRESPONDENCE, was read and dealt with as follows: From the secretary of the Beautifying Society, stating that at the meeting of the Society it was resolved to write to the Council asking that the footpath along the south side of Ihakara Gardens be made; also that the piece of roadway on the west side of the Triangle he tarred and sanded. Cr. Smith said that he was of opinion that the weeds and growth should he cleared.

The Mayor said that the frontage of every property should be cleared to the centre of the road by the property owner. Decided that the Council regrets, owing to the state of the general maintenance account, it cannot accede to the request to lay down a footpath, hut the roadmen be instructed to clear weeds in front of the gardens. WATER TOWER SITE.

From 11. W. Climie and Son, engineers, forwarding Land and Transfer plan of water tower site with traverse sheet attached <>f land to he transferred to the Council for enlarging the above site. The fences have been adopted as boundaries as shown on the plan. —Decided that the plan of tower reserve as submitted by Mr Climie he approved- arid that the Mayor and Councillors Bryant and Coley sign plan. FOOTBALL ON EASTON PARK. From (he Foxton Association Football Club slating that their ground on Victoria Park was not suitable and asking for Easton Parkas a playing area.

Cr. Smith spoke on behalf of the Association Club and Cr. Martin <m behalf of the Rugby Football Club. Decided that the application for playing area on Easton Park he declined owing to the ground being allocated to the Rngbyites.
