Miss Belle Pearson is Foxton’s candidate in the Orona Downs queen carnival competition. It will not he the fault of the young lady’s friends if she is not successful.
Firemen 11. Hamer, C. Wilson, and A. Lockwood, of the local Fire Brigade, who were competitors at the Dunedin demonstrations arrived home last night.
Rifleman IT. Frankland, who was a successful competitor at the Trout ham Rifle meeting, returned home last night.
Miss Diamond, for some years in charge of the C. M. Ross Co.’s local show-room, from which position she resigned, intends starting on her own account in Foxton at an carlv date.
Viscount Jellieoe, as the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the New Zealand Free Masons, attended the Seinde Lodge, Napier, last night. There was an attendance of about 300 brethren from all parts of Hawke’s Bay. Ilis Excellency and Lady Jellieoe and party attended the races during the day and will he on the course again to-day.
Fireman T. Morgan, an ex-Fox-ton hoy, of the Te Kuiti brigade, which did remarkably well at the i*( cent demonstrations, is on a visit to his people at Foxton. Since takings up his residence in Te Kuiti, “Tom” joined up with the brigade and is now one of its most efficient member's.
The death of Mr Duncan Fraser Ayson <m Wednesday has removed a much-respected resident of Palmerston North. Deceased, who passed away after a brief illness at the residence of his daughter, Mrs G. L. Snelling was aged (54 years Besides Mrs Snelling, the late Mr Ayson leaves another daughter, Mrs McXah. Deceased’s wife died last year, following which his son was killed in a motoring accident near Eketahuna.
Dr. Oliver, the American evangelist will pay a brief visit to Foxton this evening and will conduct a service in the Presbyterian Church. He will be accompanied by Mr Cedarholm. Dr. Oliver is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian church and Mr Cedarholm an ordained pastor of the Baptist Church. Both are remarkable men in the religious sphere. The visitors will arrive by motor car and will return to Palm.eston after the service.
