BOWLING.

Five rinks from Levin will visit Foxton to-morrow. The local rinks will be selected from the. foil owing, and in the event of there being more players on the green than are required to make up the home teams players will be balloted for: D. Whibley, Admore, Bryant, Nye, Ball, Ilealey, Parkin, Howe, Downes, Walker, Thorpe, Ross, Smith, Pearson, Christie, Roore, Spiers, Spring, Thomson, Walker, Mat-tar, Huntley, Heasman, Barr. Members are urged to be on the green prompt, in order that play may begin punctually.

The following further games have been played in the Wilford Cup Singles contest: — Ross (2) 25 v. Huntley (2) 19. Downes (6) 32 v. D. Whibley (2) 10. Healey (2) 22 v. Parkin (6) 18.

There is still one match to be played to complete this round, viz. Roore v. Walker. Those who have so far qualified for the semi-finals are:—Howe, Smith, Ross, Downes, Hen lev.

The uncertainties of the game of bowls are notorious and the triumphs, downfalls, pokers, googlies, and wickey shots that are experienced would make a long story, even from our own green. (We’ll write one some day). To be one up on each succeeding head is—all that the best of skips could wish, but things don’t usually come that way. To be five up —or down —usually calls forth a babel of voices, of joy or dissent, as the score goes for or \ against, but what about, eight down! At Levin on Wednesday, a local rink received a nasty jolt when their opponents registered seven —just an unlucky shot on our part, that’s all —but it is rumoured that on the local green recently—we won’t say the day, but it wasn’t a Friday—eight was notched in one head in a friendly (!) game.-That’s something that will never be beaten —because it can’t be done!
