Lewis, aged. 25 years, was commit■ted for trial on a charge that, with * intent to defraud, he obtained £33 from Florence Hill by false preten-';i-ces in stating that her deafness was curable, and that he was able to cure such deafness. Accused, who \ according to. the police, had ob- * tained a "diploma from a Chicago .college of drugiess physicians, advertised that he was able to cure the worst forms of deafness. Complainant visited him and he said lie would cure her witlrn 12 months and that she would be able to hear across the table within three months. She had paid £33 for treatment, including massage, without receiving any benefit and, was unable - -to. gbt a refund, of the money, which was promised if the cure was not effected. Evidence was given by specialists that complainant was
suffering from otosclerosis, an herenlitary form of deafness, which was incurable, c -
