SCHOOL SHOP DAY.
REALISES £25. The headmaster (Mr Banks) and teaching staff, of' the local State school are_to.be congratulated upon the success of .Saturday’s shop day, in aid of the local school committee’s fund. During the early morning the rain fell in torrents but the staff decided. .to see the effort through and the stall was erected next the G. M- Ross Co.’s building (kindly lent for the occasion as were the tarpaulins.) The structure kept off the rain. Gifts of fruit, produce, cookery, vegetables, poultry, etc. were generously given and found ready buyers. Had the weather been fine, the turn-over would have been greatly increased as a quantity of the.gifts were not collected. The staff took charge in relays. Several competitions were also got off. Mr H. Ries auctioned the unsold goods in the evening and made a complete clearance. The effort realised £25 Os 9d. The staff and committee desire to sincerely thank all who in any way assisted to make the affair a success.
