CONSUMPTION.

ENVIRONMENT MORE DANGEROUS THAN HEREDITY. Christchurch, Last Night. The communicability of tuberculosis from parent to child was touched upon by Dr. G. J. Blackmore, in opening a discussion on the subject of “T. 8.,” at the annual conference of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association to-day. Dr. Blackmore said the disease was communicated to the child from the parent more by environment than by heredity. He stressed the need of attempting to deal with the disease in this respect, rather than in the present expensive and calamitous procedure of dealing with the resulting disease in the offspring. In this connection, Dr. Blackmore urged the necessity of open air schools throughout the country. This was one of the most essential factors in preventing the incidence of infectious disease and especially tuberculosis in childhood.
