SCHOOL PICNIC AND EXCURSION.
A SUCCESSFUL OUTING. Despite the threatening weather conditions on Tuesday, yesterday broke gloriously fine for the annual excursion and school picnic on the Aslihurst Domain. The Department sent along eleven pas- - senger carriages to convey the excursionists and these were filled,
accommodating upwards of 600 The actual number, hot including babies was: 280 children, 55 senior scholars and 167 adhlts. The journey was made in good time and the procession of the excursionists as they wended their way to the Domain presented a very animated and pleasing sight. The bright sunshine ■ and charming locality
put everyone in the best of spirits and soon family groups were spread out in all directions neath the shade of'the bush. Mr Geo. Coley, with his usual foresight, had motored to 1 '- the ground in advance of the train and arranged details in connection with milk and hot water. The headmaster (Mr Banks), teach-
ing staff and committee -together with Mr Jas. McKniglit. (whose assistance was invaluable), and Mr Len. Freeman were not long in getting things going. The catering was in the hands of Mr Pervean and his staff (Mr W. Howe and Misses
Skellen and Walls) are deserving of special praise for the splendid attention paid to the children in this connection. There was food, fruit and lollies in abundance. The splendid sports programme was drawn up and capably carried yit by Messrs McDonnell (first assistant) and Roore (secretary) assisted by Messrs J. Ross and Cowley. The races were very interesting and some good finishes were witnessed. Two special features of the outing were the married women’s race and the baby show. Mr Freeman and Mesdames Freeman and Healey officiated as judges in the latter and although their a judication gave every satisfaction their task was a difficult one. What with swings, racing and games, to say nothing of constant calls to refreshment, the time passed all too quickly and it was a tired but very happy company that boarded the train for the homeward journey in the evening. There was no hitch or accident to mar the day’s outing and every one agreed that it was one of the most successful and enjoyable outings held in connection with the school. The committee desires to sincerely thank donors, the railway officials and all who assisted.
