VULCANISING AND RE-TREAD-ING TYRES.

The vulcanising and retreading service offered to motorists by the Foxton Motor and Engineering Co. is finding increasing favour among car owners in this district. Our representative was invited by Mr Pearson this week to view the process of preparing tyres for complete retreading during the execution of orders then on hand. Tyres that have been depleted of the rubber coverng through use, and are still sound in the canvas structure, am made almost equal to new at a fraction of the cost of new covers, with a guaranteed mileage on front wheels of at least 2,000 miles. The process consists of carefully examining the canvas structure, and if free from Haws and in good heart, the old tread is stripped, and the outer layer of canvas cleaned and roughened by means of revolving circular rasp and wire brush, the latter to give a “tooth” for the reception of the layer of amalgam and rubber. The standard thickness of rubber is then applied in two sections, which, upon passing through the vulcanising process, becomes thoroughly amalgamated, resulting in a running surface equal to the original in every respect. Since taking up this work, the Company has executed a large number of orders for all classes of vulcanising work, and lias given complete satisfaction to clients in all respects. From personal experience we can say that the retreading work done by this firm is very satisfactory, tyres that would have otherwise been discarded being again put into commission and “are still going strong.” All branches of tyre and tube repairs are undertaken, from small punctures, hursts and slits, to new canvas and rubber sections, beads, and complete retreading.
