Further heavy rain fell throughout this district last night and the Manawatu is in a flooded state. The water mains have been laid in. Thynne Street but the recent, heavy rains have retarded the work. At the Thursday night’s Borough Council meeting it was decided to purchase 41) barrels of tar from the Blenheim gas works.
The date offered to the local school committee for the use of the Ashhurst reserve for the school picnic is February 21st, not April as previously stated.
The wonderful vitality of the small dog was witnessed last evening, when the wheel of a motor van accidentally went over (lie body of the canine. It is still alive. At Palmerston yesterday Charles Ellery, a former resident of Bulls, was charged with incest and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.

Referring 1o lhe much discussed bund instruments at Thursday nighl’s Borough Council meeting, Cr. Coley facetiously remarked that one of the instruments was played by “Briscoe” seventy years ago in Wellington, when Newtown was a wilderness.
At (he meeting of the Wanganui Education Board this week, the resignation of' Mr fi. 11. Espiner, head teacher of the Buniiythorpc school, was accepted. Mr Espiner, who is retiring on superannuation, has been with the Wanganui Board for 40 years and before coming to Now Zealand taught for five years at Slock I on-on-Tecs, England.
