DAMAGE AT AUCKLAND
FLOODS AT X Ft,SON.
Auckland. January 22,
The residence of If. L. Made, at Papatoetoe, was struck by lightning this morning. Nearly all the windows in the house were broken. Another house struck was the Ellerslie vicarage, occupied by Rev. C. L. Take. The telephone wires outside the hom e were fused, and the dailies ran down a wall, lnil the only efleet was the scorching of the weat herboards. A severe thunderstorm passed over the city early this morning, a house owned by Cnnliold al Edendale being struck by liglitiling. The current apparently struck the building under the eaves, tearing off the weatherboards, entering a room, and causing a slight explosion of gas. Fairly extensive damage of the woodwork was caused by the lightning, and a curtain was burnt. I*our children in the adjoining room escaped unhurt. FLOODS AT NELSON. Nelson, .January 22. Heavy rain caused Hoods in the low lying portion of the town. The rivers are in heavy flood and considerable damage lias been done to the crops. A large landslide came down on the (ilenhope railway line and gangs of men are engaged clearing if a wav.
