ALLEGED BABY FARMING.
FOUR CHILDREN DISAPPEAR. Wellington, Last Night. Daniel Richard Cooper and Martha Cogper were before the Court to-day on charges of unlawfully detaining an infant child, and the male accused with supplying A. Sutherland with a noxious thing knowing same to be used for an illegal purpose, and were remanded until January 24. An applcation for bail by the female accused was strongly opposed by Mr Maeassey for the Crown, as it might be said to defeat the ends of justice at varibus times. Four illegitimate children have been placed in charge of the accused and tkey__bad failed, to give an account of three of them, and had made contradictory statements concerning the fourth. Besides, the body of a child had been found buried on the premises recently occupied by the .accused. In these circumstances, if bail was granted, there might be very serious results. Bail was not allowed. It is understood that Messrs T. jj, Wilford and A. Hanlon have been retained to defend the accused.
