FOXTON DIAMOND JUBILEE MEETING.
The Foxton Racing Club’s meeting which has ever been a popular holiday fixture, takes place on Sat-
urday and Monday next. This is the club’s diamond jubilee meeting ' and naturally it is the important occasion in its career a memorable gathering. The Cup race, which has been designated the Diamond Jubilee Cup (1863-1923), will carry with it a handsome cup valued at forty-five guineas. The trophy, which has been donated by the Manawatu racecourse trustees, will be awarded the winning owner immediately after the cup is decided. A gift in the form of a pair of racing binoculars, presented by the Manawatu Licensed Victuallers’ Association, will be awarded the trailer of the winner while the jockey will receive a handsome gold-mounted whip donated by Mrs Walter Kirkland, of Foxton. The fields have filled very satis- ' factorily and provided all fourteen horses go to the starting post, the cup should provide a great race. On form Printemps, Dissertation, and Mark Time appear to have good chances, but it would not be surprising to see one of the lighter weights in Martulla or Railand in the fighting line at the finish. Three prominent Marton runners in Springtide, Noble and Moulu appear in the Hurdles, and at the weights Noble may turn the tables on the top weight. • Ihapotoa and Projector read well in the Himatangi Handicap, Rimutaka in the Maiden and Velociform in the Awahou Welter. Jackaroo and the ra-pidly-improving Birkie appear to have chances in the Anniversary Handicap, while Loyal Maid and Some Red look possibilities in the five and a half furlong Scurry. The final event of the day appears more open, but Correspondent may make amends for his Marton defeat. On the second day the rider of the President’s Handicap will receive a jockey’s whip presented by Mr H. D. Mclver, and the rider of the winner of the Apprentices’ Hack Handicap will receive a similar trophy, „ the donor being Mr C. Price, of Sanson.
The club has effected certain improvements at the course to meet the convenience of'the public and the track is a credit, to the caretaker.
Mr Freeman, the club secretary, has all matters well in hand to ensure the success of the meeting and given fine weather, this year’s meeting should be a record from every point of view.
NOTES BY “FLYING HELEN” AND “NELL RUFUS.”
The topic of the hour now is, “What will win the Cup (18631923) ?” Handicapper Henrys received an excellent response to,his adjustments for the Cup, three horses only not accepting. Of these Gold Star’s connections thought him-better placed in the Awahou Hack Welter, in which, carrying S.B, he will he very hard to beat. Owner-trainer C. P. Nash decided to send Redlogue to Trentnham and Askari apparently is not quite ready. Of the fourteen acceptors, Printemps (8.12) immediately takes the eye, and since beating Scion in a gallop at Trentham, looks like being the favourite. J, Bull of Hunter - ville, with Omahu, may repeat his “All Over” and “Ngata” successes, and Hunterville folk will be there to participate, Hawke’s Bay - will pin their faith dp the Admiral, and trainer'Hickey has already reached Foxton. Dissertation, also Hawke’s Bay owned, ran a rattling good race in the Manawatu Cup and led practically a mile and a quarter. Bulls, Greatford and Parawanui district to a man will be on Mark Time who will certainly run well. Hallowroz and Kareao are recent winners during the holidays and should Beloved repeat her Horowhenua Cup form, the’ Diamond Jubilee Cup may find its first resting place on Tom Bevan’s side-board. Martulla (Martian-Tortulla) is well enough bred to win any Cup, and can be depended upon to make things interesting. Kuia—the hope of Feilding —is fit and well and will carry a lot of money from that part of the distict, and Cheer Up from the coast, with his 6.7, will carry some WestCoast cash. Railand, War Loan, and Crueelle are all nicely handicapped and may effect a surprise.
