PHENOMENAL WEATHER.
Phenomenal weather has been experienced in this district during the past few days and the rainfall for this time of the year has been in excess of that for many years. In fact, old settlers state that such wet weather during January has not been their experience in previous years. As a general rale, at this time of the year, the vegetation is wilted. Torrential rains have fallen on and off for the past week, soaking the ground, filling house tanks, while creeks and water channels have overflowed. Harvesting and shearing has been interferred with in some localities. So far as Foxton is concerned very little damage is reported. In Palmerston North yesterday’s rain storm, did considerable damage to stocks in business places and the roads and footways were flooded Over half an inch of rain fell during the day.
In several parts of the South Island heavy rain storms were recorded. Present indications point to the storm passing.'
