STRAINED RELATIONS IN MEXICO.
Mexico City, January 14
Because the Papal delegate to Mexico, Mon.signor Fillipi, unveiled a statue of Christ in the open air, the event being attended by thousands of Mexicans and thus violated a law passed in 1857, which forbids the open air celebration, or in public places, of a religious ceremony, President Obregon has uttered a warning, declaring, “We make no discriminations between the religions of Protestants and other religionists if they violate the laws and the Government will proceed in the same way against them. Mexicans attending the unveiling will be punished, and foreigners will be deported.” ,He called ■ Monsignor Fillipi a “pernicious foreigner,” and it is understood he will be expelled from Mexico. Mexico City, January 15. . President Obregon has ordered the expulsion of Monsignor Fillippi within three days, declaring that the Federal authorities in future would lake steps to prevent violation of the law_by the Catholic Church, thus not depending on the enforcement of these laws by the State authorities. This is considered the first movement against alleged Catholic aggressiveness. The order has caused a storm of criticism throughout the country, which is universally Catholic. The Rhine flows three times as fast, as the Thames. Now we know why the Rhinelanders faced to, the Rhine so hard when they were stemmed at the Marne. There is not only the watch, but the race on the Rhine.
