CHILD RECEIVES FATAL BURNS.
The death of a little girl, Glory Winnafred Morris, the 2-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs Morris, of New Plymouth, occurred at the Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday evening, following the child’s admission the night previously, suffering from severe burns. On Friday night the child was put to bed at the residence of Mr T. R. SayweJl, of College Street, Palmerston North, with whom Mrs Morris and the child had been spending a holiday. A Chinese latern, which had appealed to the child, was lighted and suspended oVer the bed until she went to sleep.
Apparently the candle in the lamp burnt low, and ignited the lantern, which, when the fastening burnt through, fell down beside the bed. The flames apparently caught the fringe of the counterpane, and soon spread over the bed, completely enveloping the child in flames. She was badly burned.
