PAINFUL ACCIDENT.
Mr A. H. Lee, of Avenue Road, employed by Mr H. Osborne, met with a painful accident on Thursday morning and a miraculous escape from death. after, tipping .a load o£ coal at Messrs King and Co.’s, mill and adjusting the pin with his foot on the sharft the horse started and Mr Lee fell between the horse and cart and was dragged. The horse then commneed to kick and the unfortunate man was somewhat badly knocked about. Fortunately his head was clear. He was extricated from his perilous position by Messrs C. King and Ellers and removed to his home where he was medically examined and trasferred to the Palmerston hospital. An examination disclosed that no bones are broken but Mr Lee is badly bruised and will be laid up. as a consequence for some time. He is progressing favourably, and will be X-rayed for a further examination to-morrow.
Mr Downes, manager of the local gas works, met with a painful accident on Thursday, having the top of one of his lingers badly smashed by a blow from a hammer.
