A match for the Nye .Ferns was played yesterday afternoon, the holders retainin'-' the trophies by a margin of live [mints. The teams and scores are as follows: — Ball, Thomson, Admore, Nye (s), holders 21; Downes, Barr, Walker, Bryant (s). challengers (16). The dates for the second and third rounds of the Triangular Shield contest are set down as follows: —Second round, Wednesday, January 17th; third round, Wednesday, February 7th. DIXON CUP MATCH. ' A match for the Dixon Cup was played on the Manawatu green on Saturday when a rink from Levin challenged the local club. The turf was in good order, and although Manawatu suffered defeat by eight points the game was an interesting one. The home rink commenced well and secured nine points before their opponents started. Levin annexed a Ax on the 7th head and kept Hose to Manawatu till thel6th when they almost passed the holders. The visitors secured almost every succeeding head and finally won by 24 to 18. The rinks were: Hunter, Corbridge, Eekersley, Radford, skip (Manawatu) 18 v. Wilson, Bull, Ba-den-Harris and Rankin, skip (Levin) 24. MANSON AND BARR CUP. The Fox to n Club sent a rink to play the holders of the Munson and Barr Cup on Saturday, the game resulting.- in a substantial win for the latter. The rinks were: Wilson, Rowling, Livingstone, Jones, skip (Palmerston North) and Ball, Smith, Admore, Whibley, skip (Foxton). Jn the early stages of the game the honours were fairly even, Palmerston North opening with three, and the visitors retaliating with a similar number. At the eighth head the score was 8 all, but after that Palmerston North, by securing the points on the next five heads —including a six on the lltli —drew well away from their opponents and were 23-13 at the 17tli. This lead they increased to 31-15 bv the 21st head.
