FOXTON SILVER BAND.

LETTER TO THE COUNCIL. The following letter was read at last night’s Borough Council meeting from Mr J. Golder 6n behalf of the “Foxton Silver Band (incorporated)”:— “In the matter of the Council’s resolution dated 12th December, 1922, with reference to the Band instruments. The Band is a registered body and personally I am powerless to act in the matter. The society will hold a special meeting as soon as the busy season is over, sometime this month and its riiembers will go fully into the matter. I have given sight of the Council’s resolution to Mr Perreau, and am of opinion that an amalgamation could he satisfactorily arrived at.”

The Town Clerk reported that all the instruments belonging to the defunct band had been returned, including a cornet, the personal property of Mr Golder. Cr. Bryant produced the certificate of registration of the Foxton Silver Band. Cr. Walker said he had been informed that the Council had passed a resolution to the effect: that: so soon as a hand was formed and registered the instilments held in trust by the Council would be handed over to it. If that, was so the recent resolution of the Council was void. The Mayor said he had no recollection of such resolution. The Town Clerk said a resolution had been passed to Chat effect but it had reference to the old hand. The Mayor suggested that the matter be held over as the old members wore not at present willing to join up with the new band. He would like to confer with both parties. The Clerk then got into telephonic communication with Mr Perrean and reported that the other band had not yet been formed and he (Mr Perreau) was not in favour of handing the instruments held by the Council over to the Silver Band. Cr.. Coley said that when both parties had agreed'’ to amalgamate the Council should hand over the instruments. After further desultory discussion it was agreed to receive the letter and hold the matter liver in the meantime.
