NAILS AND CHARACTER.
The appearance of the nails is •said to be a good indication of the state of health of the owner. But more than this, tjie size, shape and colour of the finger nails tell an observant person a great deal about the disposition of the individual. Long-nailed people are gentle and calm and generally quietly cheerful. They do not fuss or get restless. But they are also rather too cautious and lacking in self-confi-dence, and are apt to be obstinate in their opinions. The quick and keenly critical person, full of animation, inclined to argument and analysis, almost always has round, even pink nails. If they are small as well, then she is rather a. melancholy nature and so thin-skinned tlu&pjhe is always takin<r offence where none was intended. V .
Nails broader than they are long indicate a worrying and rather meddlesome disposition and scolds and “grousers” usually possess squarelooking nails. Narrow nails go with scientific ambitions. Their possessor will be studious but not particularly gentle or amiable. People who bite their nails are of - ten declared to he ill-tempered, hut this is much more frequently: a sign of a highly-strung and nervy temperament, rather over active men-
The owner of nails which are fluted or furrowed should take good eare of the general health, for this is invariably a sign of a run-down physical condition. For this reason it is found for a time immediately af-ter-severe illness or when the possessor is overdone. white spole on the nails arc generally also an indication of illness, but if the nails otherwise seem perfectly healthy they may indicate a uni ural shrinking from the unpleasant and distasteful and a determination to avoid such things.
