A Wanganui business man in the undertaking line received an application the other day from a person in quest of employment, indicating in his letter that he had been in that particular line of business some years ago, in 'Wjanganui, and had made many friend's, and if he could “dig’* some of them up it would be to the mutual advantage of the applicant and his prospective employer. The death occurred at Ashhurst yesterday of Mr A. M. Banckham sear., aged 72 years. The late Mr Banckham arrived in New Zealand per sailing ship “Waimate” in 1877. He was fanning in the Fcilding district for a time and later removed to, Ashhurst, where lie resided for many years. Deceased was a boat builder by trade and built several boats for service locally and was well-known locally. He leaves a wife and one daughter, Airs Walter Baines of Ashhurst. Mr W. D. Banckham, of Paxton, is a nephew of deceased. The funeral takes place at Ashhurst to-morrow afternoon.
