MAGAZINE REVIEWS

“The Aussie.” —The Christmas Issue of this magazine is a specially fine number. It is full of Christmas humour and spirit maintained throughout 92 pages, and contains one of the best stories that has come from the pen of Henry Lawson —specially written for “Aussie.” There are over 100 illustrations by over 50 Australian artists, together with dozens of stories, articles, verse, sketches, and pars by numerous Australian writers. Excellent art is provided by Noel Cook and Dick Here, two very promising artists, and G. K. Townsbend lias a drawing of remarkable merit. An article of great interest is one entitled “The Forbears of Henry Lawson,” written by the poet’s sister, Gertrude Lawson.

“Life.”—There is a well-selected and well-arranged variety of reading in the December number of the well-known monthly, “Life.” Lovers of cricket will be interested to learn of a new series of cricketing articles by Warwick Armstrong, Captain of the Australian XL, the first-of which appears in this issue. In more serious vein, “Mv Life and Work,” by Henry' Ford, fulfils all that, the publishers claim for it, telling a very human story of Ford’s early days. A further section of “Thro’ Hell with O. Henry,” another of “Clubfoot —the Spy.” a special South Sea tale by John Russell and a number of articles dealing wjth a variety of subjects complete a magazine well worth the shilling it costs. The “Review.” —The Review, just to hand, is'" handsomely illustrated and well produced on good paper, and maintains the reputation of the “House of Stead” for the production of instructive periodicals. It contains articles on Executive Training, Business Intelligence, Industrial Administration, Taxation, Cost Accounting and Executve Problems.
