A WELLINGTON SENSATION.
YOUNG ALAORI CHARGED WITH MURDER. Wellington, Yesterday. This afternoon acting-Detecfive Walsh arrested a young native, •John Tohi, on a charge of having on or about October 14, murdered Herbert Ilenry Knight, a eontrac- „ tor. It appears from what (tan be\ gathered of the case that Knight ' 1 was not reported to the police as missing until last week. Investigalion of the circumstances connected’' with his disappearance created a cert tin suspicion and the ease was placed in the hands of acting-De-tective Walsh for further investigation. The dead body of Knight has been recovered and the remains are being brought into Wellington so that a post mortem examination maybe made. The arrested man, John Tohi, is about 20 years of age. The deceased, Herbert Henry Knight, was unmarried and aged about 50 years.-** He had property at Johnsonville and at Island Bay. John Tula, the young native lad who is charged with the murder of hi- former employer, Herbert HenryKnight, a building contractor and small farmer, who formerly resided at Johnsonville, made his appearance before Air F. K. Hunt, S.AI., in the Wellington Alagistrate's Court yesterday. After formal evidence had been tendered he was remanded until December 13th. Bail was not allowed, Mr Hunt remarking that he did not think that securities would he forthcoming. In any case the court would refuse bail.
