CORRESPONDENCE.
MR WHIBLEY DENIES HIS OWN PLATFORM. (To the Editor.) Sir, —In your issue of November 30th, Mr Whibley is reported as saying he “was uot in favour of disturbing the present owners or preventing the transferring of land to the sons of OAvners.” Now, that statement is a distinct denial of his OAvn party’s platform. The official platform of his party definitely says “that privately owned land shall not be sold or transferred except to the State.” There can be no mistake about the meaning of these words, and under such a provision a mother could not transfer her holding to her son even if he had no land of his own. The proposal is a ridiculous one. ■ It remains for the electors of the ManaAvatu to say what they think of a candidate Avho comes before them pledged to such a proposal and then has the temerity to say he does not support it, We are, Yours, N.Z. WELFARE LEAGUE. [Surely the Avage-eamer Avho, by industry and thrift, has purchased for himself a home, understands that if lie desires to sell or transfer his property under the Labour socialisation scheme it must be to the State and at a fixed valuation and to no one else. Here is the Labour platform on the subject to which the candidate says he is pledged “absolutely”: — “(3) (a) A State valuation of all privately owned land, such valuation to remain on record as the measure of present land holder’s interest in land. (b) That privately owned land shall not lie sold or transferred except to the State. (c) The owner shall have (lie right to surrender bis bind on ibe valuation set out in subclause (a).” Now, Mr Small-man with a home, think this over, but don’t squeal when it is too late. Ed ll.]
