CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

The quarterly meeting of members of the Local Chamber of Commerce was field on Thursday eventag, presided over by Mr A. N. Smith (president). Correspondence was read from Mr Forsyth Johnston of Dunedin, who represented the local Chamber at the annual conference. Decided to tiiank Mr Johnston fur his services. < A lengthy letter was read from Die associated Chambers enclosing resolution adopted at the recent conference re the development of (lie Dominion’s latent resources and asking for the co-operation of the local Chamber. —On the motion of Messrs ilornblow and Chrystall, R wa.- decided to extend the Chamber’s support to the proposal. Mr 11. Osborne was elected to the vacancy on the committee caused by the retirement of Mr Moorehouse. The president explained what further steps had been taken to promote shipping to the port. The Chamber was of opinion that very little tinaueial support could be expected from this district in reference to the purchase of steamers advocated by Air Hamilton, but that efforts would be made to procure inward and outward freights.
