GOLD IN THE UREWERA.
Wairoa, Last. Night. A well-known Wairoa native has secured specimens of quartz, which was alleged to have beeij taker, from a reef in the Urewera country seventeen miles from Ruatahuna. The reef is said to be of considerable extent and has been traced for over a mile. The colour of the quartz is similar to that found at Thames, being of dark grey. Specimens have been sent to the Government Department, Thames School Mines, and the manager of the Waihi gold mines. It is well known that the gold has been found in the Urewera at different times, the first being secured at the time Te Kooti was on the war path, but. the exact spot was never known.
