Do You Believe the Scriptures ?
Many people in the present day judge what is good in a very superficial way, never considering the inevitable result if the work is in direct antagonism to the Scriptures; though the crash may not oome at the moment. In Ist Timothy 4th chapter, 1,2, 3, 4 we find in-tbe plainest language the great Apostle of tho Gentiles foretelling a remarkable which would characterise tho last days of the Christian dispensation, viz., the strange sight of men prohibiting their fellowmen from using the gifts of God “that were sent for their comfort and blessing. He gives two examples of their audacity, viz., prohibiting marriage and eating of meat; while giving the clear warning that anything may be attacked as well. Now, wine, of all other gifts, stands in the front ranks right through tho Bible, as a special gift of God to man. The Scripture referred to in Ist Timothy can now speak for itself:— “Now tho Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils forbidding to marry and commanding to abstain from meats which God hath ordained to be received with thanksgiving . . . For EVERY CREATURE of God is good and nothing to be refused.” Any honest person who reads the above quotation cannot fail to perceive that the source of Prohibition is distinctly Satanic. That is the reason why tho early Grristians at Corinth, who got drunk on tbe Lord s Day when they gathered together (1 Cor. 11 chapter 21), were never forbidden the uso of wine; they were only rebuked for abusing it.
