THE HEMP MARKET.

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The High Commissioner’s cable, dated the 28th inst., reads: “Hemp, Manila market quiet but steady. ‘O’ grade in dock sold at £3l 15s; Nov-ember-Jauuary shipments, £3l 10s. New Zealand market inactive; nominal value Octoher-December, and November-Januury shipments, high points £3l 10s, fair £3O 10s.”

THE “OLD CEMETERY.” VALIDATING THE TRANSFER. A clause in the Native Washingup Bill empowers the Native Land Court to inquire into the circumstances attending the proposed gift by owners, or some of them, to the borough of Foxton, of a piece of land known as Foxton section 97 B, containing about 2 roods and 21 perches, and if the Court is satisfied that the gift should be carried out, to make an order investing the land or^any part of it in the corporation, subject to such conditions as it shall think fit to impose. The Court may remit any fees payable to the Native Land Court in respect of this land. [ln connection with the above, the Maori owners of the land above referred to decided to transfer that portion - of the section known as the “old cemetery” to- the Borough Council .but instead the section at the rear was transferred. The Land Court will now investigate the matter and rectify (lie mistake.]
