FLAXMILL DESTROYED.

AT KOPUTAROA.

Air E. J. Nash’s flaxmill at Koputaroa was destroyed by fire on Tuesday morning. The outbreak occurred at the rear of the scotching shed, and the flames spread so rapidly that it was impossible to get the (ire under control.

On Tuesday the mill had temporarily run out of flax, and pending the arrival of supplies from tin? swamp, all hands, including Air Nash, were at work in the scutching shed. Everything was going well when an alarm of lire was given, the outbreak being discovered outside the scutching shed. There was some wind at the—time, and in a very short time, in spite of the strenuous efforts of all hands, the flames spread to the scutching shed, and in such inflammable material the shod and the mill were soon enveloped and were completely destroyed, nothing being saved. The mill, which ran a single stripper, had only resumed operations between two and three months ago. It is not ascertainable at present what insurances, if any were on the building and plant. —Chronicle.
