COME TO STAY.

AIR ATASSEY. AND THE MOTOR LORRIES. * Mr R. ArcCallum (Wivirau) remarked in the House that the Government was spending money on the roads for the benefit of motors, which would lake traffic from the railways. ■ Air- Afassev: I admit all that, but don’t let us imagine that the motor lorries have not come to stn\. I believe they have come to stay, and I don’t think it is the business of the Government to place any difficulty in the, way of their doing business. If they can compete with the railways the public will get the benefit. I think that in the long run the railways will heat them, t don’t think we should keep our roads in had condition merely to discourage motor traffic. Mr McCullum: Make them pay for the roads. All- Massey replied that an arrangement of that kind would be fair. The road question was under consideration.
