FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Poxton Harbour Board iva.s held at Palmerston North on Monday. There were present: Messrs J. Linklater (chairman), J. A. Nash, M.P., Chrystall, Signal, Rixnmer, Clapham and Roore (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Barber and Holben. The treasurer’s statement disclosed excess of receipts over expenditure for the current year, inclusive of unpresen'ted cheques, as at 7th inst.. as £790 15s fid; accounts totalling £l4l lfis fid were passed for payment. SHED ACCOMMODATION. The necessity for shed goods accommodation at the wharf to facilitate and to avoid the dual and triple handling of goods, was discussed and it was resolved to apply for the balance of loan money and to utilise same on the erection of the desired accommodation. ACCESS TO THE WHARF. The chairman and Mr Chrystall reported upon the interview with the Minister of Lands re ' access to the wharf over the railway line. The Minister agreed to give the matter consideration, but was opposed to granting an easement in perpetuity.—lt was decided to again communicate with the Minister on the subject and urge legislation on the subject during the coming session. TRANSFERS. ’l'lie following transfers of Beach sections were approved: Robert Owen to McDowell; Watkins to Misses Renton; Presbyterian Church to Andrews; lease to W. Alsop confirmed. DREDGE. In making a cursory examination of the dr-edge. Mr Signal reported that the cost for shifting the winches amidship in order to relieve the strain which is so noticeable, will be in the vicinity of £75 to £BO. To avoid dismantling the whole of the roof and supports in the immediate vicinitytof the winches and where operations will take place if the work is going to be carried out the boiler will lie easier to dislocate and one of the pulleys can be taken away. This will allow a clear course for the winches to pass amidship without any hindrance. —The matter was left in the hands of the chairman and Messrs Signal and W. Ba liter. ARREARS OF KENT. T< was decided to notify the lessee of a reserve that failing a settlement of arrears of rent within a fortnight the lease would be cancelled. SEASIDE LEASES. In reference to the leases of seaside sections the secretary reported as follows : The total number of sections, as at the 7th October, 1922. is 138, .of which 107 are taken up or occupied, 3 (0(5, 07, 08) are not on the survey plan and 2S are still available for occupation or leasing purposes. Of the sections taken up oxin occupation 84 have dwellings e-i-ected thereon and 23 without, 17 of the latter class should be compelled to build or in the alternative •leases should be determined for noii-fulfilment of “covenant to build’’ within twelve months. Six have only been taken up during the current year. Tht receipts by way of rent for sections in occupation, etc., during the current year are £213 4s fid and the total outstanding rent is £44 ss, of which the sum of £3 10s is arrears from the previous year. —Resolved to cancel nil leases where the lessees have failed to build within the specified time, subject to reasonable excuse forthcoming within a fortnight and building within six months.
Sanatorium Leases. —In these I find that the total number of sectons surveyed is 32, of which 22 are taken up and 10 ai’e still available for letting purposes. Of the sections in occupation 10 have dwellings and 12 are without. Seven of the'latter class should be compelled to build as the lessees have been in oeeupation for more than twelve months. The rent receipts are l'2S 1!L -Id and the total outstanding rent is £5 10s. —Similar action to he taken in respect of Te Wharangi leases. GENERAL. Several matters in connection with otlice requirements were sanctioned and it was decided to leave the question of procuring a more suitable office to the chairman and secretary.
Decided to forward copy of local stationmaster’s letter to the Mnnawatu Mills Co. re complaint.
Secretary's action in sanctioning the removal of two dead carcasses from the river foreshore -was endorsed.
